In 1970, my parents got their first television. I was four years old and I remember coming in for dinner after being outside playing with my friends and there it was, a huge black and white television sitting right in our living room. My mother talks about how I ran into the door frame as I went toward the bathroom to wash up for dinner. I was so engulfed by this new television that now had a dominating presence in our home.
Television has come a long way since then. Now we can watch television on large plasma LCD screens with high definition (HDTV) signals and digital cable. But is it really a requirement? I don’t like most television programming but I do use it to watch either a DVD or a VHS tape of movies or old shows that I do enjoy.
Some people I know truly believe it is a requirement of life. An acquaintance of mine was once telling me how frustrated he was that he could not find the time to start his own business. From many conversations with him I knew that he did have an idea of a business strategy and that he had agonized over this for a long time. I told him to take baby steps, to just go ahead and incorporate his business and start asking around to get his first consulting client. As we sat there in front of his television, he told me he didn’t have the two hundred dollars to incorporate. Yet I knew from previous conversations that he was paying over a hundred dollars a month for cable television programming. And I knew since he was single with no children and very rarely went out with friends that he was watching over five hours of television a day.

If you’re like most homeowners, you don’t have a chimney in the corner of your room. That isn’t a problem. A corner fireplace can be a self-enclosed fire box with a mantel designed to fit into a corner. Depending on whether you want a fireplace for heat, appearance or ambiance, your fuel can be electricity, gel or gas. A vent or chimney can be added to accommodate a wood-burning fireplace.

When I think of vacationing in the snow, I can understand why so many love to do so. I live in the northern United States, so snow is nothing new to me. Many around me say they are sick of the snow, but I have to admit that I love it. I find a good snowfall to be relaxing and peaceful.
I understand why people who don’t have snow on a regular basis would want to take a winter vacation, and I know that ski vacations are quite popular in all age groups.

The history of the Caribbean is a turbulent one with different nations in dispute over territory. The unusual political situation of St Martin Island involves the French and the Dutch. This tropical, tourist destination is under the rule of France in the north and under the Netherlands in the south. The island is divided approximately in half and both countries agreed this to in 1648.
The early economy was dominated by the French development of sugar plantations in the 18th century, which were worked by slaves. Today, the island is reliant on tourism and the area is sometimes hit by tropical storms.

Our great nation is filled with tourist attractions. Surely you’ve visited a few of these hot-spots in your day. While they’re all fun and games to the tourists, it’s a bit different when you’re actually living in one. I spent a couple of years in North Myrtle Beach SC.
Yeah, I’m sure you’ve at least heard of this tourist trap. Most likely you’ve been there on spring break or summer vacation.
Millions of people flood into this area every year. In short, it’s not so grand living in a tourist attraction such as this. The traffic will begin to get on your nerves.

Disposable diapers are probably the most important invention since the telephone. The days when parents had to use flannel cloth diapers that were adjusted with oversized pins are over. Parents are a great deal happier because of this, but we also have a brand new problem. The huge range of choices and brands of disposable diapers makes it nearly impossible to decide between them.

Potty training is a big step in a toddler’s life and you can make it a fun and pleasant one when you use potty training tips that really work. You don’t want to start this process to soon so you first need to make sure your child is ready. The average age for potty training is two and a half, but all toddlers are ready at different ages so you may be able to start earlier or you may have to wait a little longer. It will all depend on the individual child. To know if your infant is ready you need to start looking for indications.
Being uncomfortable when they are wet is a good sign they are ready to potty train. It shows that they understand this is not a normal feeling and they don’t like it. If your child can put on his or her own shorts or shirt, then this means they have the skill needed for potty training. When they have an interest in the bathroom or wearing training pants they are showing indications they are ready to begin the process of potty training. At this time they should also be able to stay dry for two or more hours at a time, indicating they are beginning to have a little control over their body functions.
Remember that the simpler you make it for your child the easier it will be for them to train. For instance, the least amount of clothing they have to deal with the faster they can get to the potty. This is important because a child usually only has a few seconds from the time they realize they have to use the bathroom to the time they are actually going. This is why potty training in warm weather is preferred. Make the potty as convenient as you can for your child and allow them to wear clothing in which they can feel wet if they go in their clothes. This encourages them to use the potty because they don’t like this wet feeling.
You will need to begin the potty training process when you have the time to stay with it or you will be wasting your time. You have to be consistent with the training for your child to learn and understand. Patients is a must, fussing at a toddle for accidents will only make things worse and the process harder. They need to be praised for their efforts and this should be a fun time in their life. So if you are pressed for time and in a hurry, then wait until you have the time to be patient with your child.
