Norris Lake, Tennessee: an Outdoorsman’s Dream
Norris Lake, Tennessee is the home of a man-made reservoir created by the construction of Norris Dam in 1936 by the Tennessee Valley Authority. The dam impounded the Clinch and Powell Rivers to create over 34,000 acres of a beautiful pristine lake. Located in eastern Tennessee, Norris has become the region’s most visited recreational body of water. Its deep waters are perfect for bass fishing and it is considered the cleanest lake in the TVA system.
Although, there are lots of marinas and resorts available for visitors, the shoreline of Norris Lake is mostly natural rock and woodland shoreline. Much of the shoreline remains protected by government wildlife refuges. Norris is surrounded by several counties, but the most developed marinas and resorts lie in Campbell and Anderson counties. Aside from the Smoky Mountains, this area is one of the most visited outdoor areas in East Tennessee.
