This is especially true when the alcohol abuse is accompanied by other impairments such as depression and anxiety. Because of dual disorders, finding the right kind of treatment for alcohol abuse is difficult because many treatment centers claim to offer dual diagnosis but very often are not licensed do so.
A growing number of rehab centers, however, are specializing in dual diagnosis and staffing practitioners who are fully licensed to provide dual diagnosis and treatment. These kinds of doctors are trained to diagnose and treat the causes of addiction, rather than merely the effects of the addiction. Many drug and alcohol abuse specialists find that women are among the majority of dual disorder sufferers.
