On October 12, 1980 Prince Ludwig was married to Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. All of the people of Munich was invited to celebrate their bond to each other. The celebration consisted of beer drinking, horse races and other fun activities for the townsfolk. They enjoyed it so much that they repeated the event every year until it was known as the Oktoberfest.
Today pubs in UK commemorate this ritual by setting up similar activities like street parties and by wearing costumes throughout the celebration. People take a break from their usual stressful daily activities to relax and have fun every year.
