It might come as no surprise to know that the Jewish Dating Service is extremely unpopular among Jewish parents and grandparents. It is their belief that the children should follow the matchmaking customs of previous generations. But today’s young Jews, just like any others youngsters in modern day societies, want to be independent and find their Mr or Mrs Right for themselves.
Times are a changing; just have times have always changed moulding we humans with evolution. Attitudes and outlook upon life have always adjusted with the times, sometimes quickly, sometimes slowly, but change is inevitable, it always has been and always will be. Some people of the world still live a stone age existence, but all this does is cut them off from their fellows. If that’s what they want that’s fair enough, but it’s a little unkind for older generations to imprison their kids with the same rigid beliefs as they have.
It used to work, and these oder generations used to call it ‘respect’, but today’s youth think that it’s disrespectful to be held down and held back by ancient beliefs and rituals. The internet has a lot to answer for, so does modern technology in general as it has been responsible for both bringing the world together and tearing it apart. Still, if relationships are strong within families and communities, then the independence of 21st century youths shouldn’t come between them. Should it?
