Stained glass is the art or craft of constructively organizing pieces of colored glass to form shapes and patterns. It takes skill to properly cut pieces of the mixed glass colors and arrange them together with frames or lead. This is done by melting a solder or lead with a soldering gun.
To stain the glass or color it, manufacturing processes add metallic salts. Once the glass is stained it can then be cut and formed into a marvelous assortment of glass. If you want to learn more about stained glass and how to creatively create glass art visit David Gomm’s stained glass site and his stained glass studio for teaching stained glass. Art Nouveau embraced the modern use of technology on materials such as stained glass and wrought iron, which were used extensively in sculpture and functional items.
A classic tradition was observed too in the use of motifs from the natural world, such as flowers or insects. Furniture, jewelry, lighting, textiles and posters were all part of the style.
Antoni Gaudi is probably the most famous architect of the movement, still celebrated today for his eccentric buildings in Barcelona. He took the style to new heights, never making a straight line where a wavy one could do the job.

So you are just about to start your journey into the wonderful world of art and are thinking about taking a painting course? Like most new skills, it can be a little confusing at first knowing exactly where and how to start, particularly if you don’t have someone to help guide you through the initial stages. This article will hopefully provide you with a few tips and ideas to get you going.
Organizing Your Painting Studio
When you first start to learn to paint, you will more than likely not have the use of a professional art studio, however you should try and create a productive environment around you where you can concentrate on the job in hand and relax! Most importantly, try and find a space in your home that is free from noise and distraction. That’s not always easy I know! At least set up your art studio where you will not be constantly disturbed.
Lighting
Where possible, find a room in your house that has some space and plenty of natural light. A Conservatory is a great place to start, or a room that has lots of windows. If you can’t find any natural sunlight, you will have to use artificial light. There are special bulbs called “Full Spectrum”, that are made to emulate natural sunlight. They do a adequate in providing the correct lighting, but nothing compares to natural sunlight.
Painting Brushes
As with paint colours, choosing your paint brush is purely a matter of personal choice. I have experimented over the years with numerous different brush types and mainly choose to use flats and filberts of various sizes. My painting brush selection mainly consists of No.2, No.5, and No.10 Filberts and No2, No5, and No10 Flats, which are all made from hog hair, which is extremly strong, flexible and great to use with oil paints.
Artist Palette
You will see every artist using one of these if you are not familiar with the term! The artists palette is basically the surface that you will use to layout and mix all your colours on. There are a variety of different palettes available. They can be made from plastic, glass or wood and come in a variety of shapes. I usually use a palette made from wood, however you will need to seal it first as the wood is porous. This is very easy to do. All you need is some linsead oil or mineral oil and then wipe the surface of your palette to coat the surface. Remove any excess oil and you’re ready to get started!

For at least the last year or two, I have been a big fan of simple shoes like asics gel shoes. I used to be much more complex and my tastes. I would always try to be keeping up with the latest styles, buying flashy, trendy shoes. What I found was that I would get more blisters that way, and that my shoes would go out of style quickly.
It is true that you can get some attention by wearing the latest flashy styles, but sometimes a simple shoe is best.

Most of the outdoor Christmas decorations that were scattered all over the lawns were the kind that lit up. Since it was early evening and the sun was already setting, they were all lit up in their bright glory. I pulled into my driveway and just stared. I was absolutely appalled and embarrassed. I wanted to pack up my things and move right back to my old neighborhood. Directly across from me was a giant lit Santa. He must have been at least 6 feet tall and by far, the most ridiculous of all of the outdoor Christmas decorations on my block. He was swaying slightly in the breeze, making him appear as if he was waving at me. I couldn’t get over the fact that all of my neighbors had managed to get all of their outdoor Christmas decorations set up in only a few hours. Apparently, I had not received the neighborhood decorating schedule.
