Woman looking for jewelry box

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

My neighbor, Clara lost everything in apartment fire. She got everything replaced except for her jewelry box. She asked me if I had information on jewelry boxes. I answered in the affirmative and told her that there were plenty of websites that she could log on to get the best deals on jewelry boxes.

Needless to say, she thanked me and within no time got an exquisite wooden jewelry box for herself.

Create Your Own Animal Garden Statues

Friday, June 13th, 2008

… Sometimes a little bit of praise and encouragement can go a long way towards getting a kid to continue on with a new art project. From that point on, animal statues were practically all I made for the next several months. It was summertime, so I had a lot of free time on my hands. I would sit out in the sun, making animal statue after statue, using different materials whenever I got the chance. I soon became bored with paper mache. I made wire sculptures, sculptures out of old odds and ends that I found around the house, and even a few statue animals made out of parts of other sculptures…

Collecting Reproductions Of Antique Furniture

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

…I have quite a variety of antique reproduction furniture. I started my collection of antique furniture reproductions early, you see, and have been really putting them together since college. My mom bought me a false mission chair when I went away to school. It was surprisingly inexpensive, and was quite an elegant design. It wasn’t my favorite chair in college – it wasn’t all that comfortable for sprawling around in or lying back on – but it did make my room look more impressive and classy…

Unbelievable Pirate Costumes

Monday, May 26th, 2008

There was an episode of Seinfeld once where Jerry proclaimed that he did not want to be a pirate. While the episode was funny, I can’t imagine not wanting to be a pirate. The modern day idea of a pirate is much different than what they used to be, but that is part of the fun. We all know that they were once very feared, and they did horrible things, but that doesnít stop us from loving the idea of them today. There are modern day pirates, but they are nothing like what we see when we go out to get pirate costumes from the store.

Tips For Buying Art Deco Chairs

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

Art Deco chairs are not often found in the market today. You can define the Art Deco era by its use of contrasting colors and geometric shapes. Clean, elegant lines along with stepped designs and repeated patterns are typical of this era and what give it it’s interesting and unique flair.

Buying a vintage piece of Art Deco style is never a problem. If you’re unsure look for geometric patterns and repeating details.  Keep, style and quality in mind when deciding on what price to pay for Art Deco chairs.   If you want to increase the value of your collectibles, make sure that the piece is both stylish and at a price you can afford.

One thing to remember is that you need to always ask about the condition of Art Deco chairs before purchasing one.  When purchasing a chair you should always pick the best quality in a price range you can afford.  Inspect it carefully both on top and underneath and look for any signs of wear or repair as both will effect the value.  Always look for a piece in the best possible condition you can buy, however this usually implies paying a high price.

There’s A New Ugly Doll In Town

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Once upon a time the gold standard for ugly dolls were Troll Dolls.  You remember them — those orange-tan plastic dolls with zombie eyes and a shock of hair that made Don King look like he had a buzz cut by comparison.

Well, now there’s a new ugly doll in town that goes by the blatantly obvious name of UglyDolls.

UglyDolls tend to to be more on the soft-fabric ugly side versus the hard-plastic ugly as
the demonstrated by the Troll Dolls.

How To Keep Your Seated Liberty Half Dollar 1861 Value At It’s Highest

Friday, May 9th, 2008

Everyone knows that the seated liberty half dollar 1861 value is at it’s highest when the coin is in the best possible condition. Unused or undamaged coins almost always have a greater value than those in poor or indifferent condition.  As a general rule, older coins are more valuable; but it isn’t always the case. Of course age and rarity make a coin more valuable to collectors, but they aren’t the only factors that matter. The market value of a coin is largely determined by demand for it.

Whenever possible avoid handling your coins. Dust, scratches, fingerprints and moisture will affect the quality of your coins and depreciate their value.  If circumstances require you to touch your collectibles, do so touching only the outsides, especially with very valuable or rare coins in good condition.
Cleaning coins is not recommended and if necessary should be left to an expert. Rather than cleaning a coin, leaving its patina undisturbed might make it more desirable to collectors and more valuable.
Most holders provide adequate protection for seated liberty half dollars but you will want to be sure that your most valuable coins are protected not only from fingerprints and dust, but also moisture.  Stapled or taped packets don’t give maximum protection, but there are other protectors in the market that can also guard effectively against moisture. Protecting your collectible coins from water damage is paramount; choose a dry, controlled-temperature space, never a damp basement or cellar.

Collecting Rare Sacagewa Coins

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

If you’re starting to collect rare Sacagawea coins, be advised that the value of a coin directly reflects its condition. Mint-condition coins will, on almost every occasion, be of vastly greater value than those which show obvious signs of use.  You must realize that more than age goes into determining the worth of a given coin. Everyone knows that old and rare coins are desirable, but there is more than just age and scarcity that go into determining a coin’s value to collectors. Coins can be valued by many factors, the most important of which is, of course demand.
If possible, steer clear of handling your coins. In the world of collectible coins, value is directly correlated to condition and quality, which is lessened when scratches, smudges, fingerprints or scratches are present.  Direct contact with your collection should be avoided, especially with coins in mint condition, but if you have to touch please do so by only holding the outer edge.

Moisture can cause problems just like fingerprints and dust can, so even though most holders are sufficient to protect your Sacagawea dollars make sure your most valuable pieces are really protected.  Aside from the typical stapled or taped packets that provide average protection, there are other protectors out there that can do a better job and guard against moisture as well. Avoid any storage space that is damp and cool when selecting a storage area for your collectible coins.

Tips For Investing In Collectible Trade Dollars

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

When it comes to trade dollars, specimens that are in mint condition are typically the most valuable. Unused or undamaged coins almost always have a greater value than those in poor or indifferent condition.  You must realize that more than age goes into determining the worth of a given coin. The age and scarcity of coins of course affects their value to collectors, but did you know that there are other factors that play a part in assigning value to a given coin?. Market value is as much a determination of demand as any other factor.

You should try to avoid cleaning your coins and if it has to be done, the process should be handled by a specialist. The patina on an old coin might best be left undisturbed, since removing it could decrease the coin’s value as a collectible.
Try to handle your coins as little as possible. Your coins’ value is judged by quality: dust, smudges and nicks from handling will lessen their appraised value.  Direct contact with your collection should be avoided, especially with coins in mint condition, but if you have to touch please do so by only holding the outer edge.
