Komodo Gear Shows Strong Presence At TWS with New Custom Race Suit

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Texas World Speedway was a strong opening for the CMRA in February.  But first, let’s start with Lone Star Track Day, which had a big turnout (over 140 riders) for the track day held on Friday.  Lone Star Track Day is one of the oldest and most successful track day organizations in Texas.  Owned and Operated by Steve MacNamara, the school offers valuable curriculum for riders of all skill types.  You can learn a lot by taking a class fro LSTD and the price is very reasonable when you consider the talent of the instructors and the opportunity to really learn how to ride your bike to its full potential.
For the CMRA races, the weather was a bit cold and windy, which is typical for February weather.   However, it didn’t deter the riders from having a great weekend.  The CMRA held endurance on Saturday and Sprints on Sunday.  Danny Kelsey had a pretty good weekend with several top 3 finishes.  Danny is a very talented and capable rider, so we expect some great results from Danny this season.  Also, Danny will be riding for Liberty Motorsports Park this season and will race in a few AMA sanctioned events.  So, keep tuned in on our newsletter as Komodo will be following more on Danny as the season progresses.  Next up is Ty Howard who had a strong weekend with several wins aboard his new KTM RC8r.  What a beautiful bike that also backs it up the good looks with killer performance.  We’ll be watching Ty this season as he is in a great position to succeed.  Also, you will see Ty wearing a new custom race suit created by Komodo Gear at the next CMRA race at Eagles Canyon!

Stock Car Racing

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

When they say that you learn what you live, they mean just that. Many times people grow up with interests only because these things were passed down to them from their parents. This is the case for me when it comes to stock car racing. This is probably not something I might have chosen to watch on my own, but because my stepfather was such a big fan, I ended up watching a lot of these races on television growing up. Though I really don’t watch many NASCAR events any longer, I still keep up with who is who on occasion. The great thing about NASCAR is that things always change. Though there are some racers who seem to dominate the season, each year there is a new driver on the scene who gives everyone a run for their money.

Which Waterproof Watches are Best Suited for You

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

What You Should Look For

Something that a lot of divers forget to check is the helium and crown relief valves before jumping in a dive. If you don’t properly tighten them water can seep into the watch and all of a sudden this watch you bought for diving just stops working. If you had researched the watch that you needed you could have found the correct one for this type of diving.

When you decide to look up the type of watches that are best suited for wearing under water, you will find that almost all chronographs cannot be used when you are under water. This action could cause water to leak into the watch and plain ruin them. There are exceptions to this type you buy though. A very few use seals so the watch is sealed. Still, waterproof watches are only rated up to a certain depth.

Buying a watch for diving you need one with a rating of 150m. This distance is more than enough for swimming but if you swim in salt water you need to make sure you rinse the watch when you get out of the water. This will keep the salt water from causing corrosion to the watch. Taking care of the watch is just as important as getting the right one.

How to catch big fish when freshwater fishing

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

This is a fishing blog. Just one of many fishing blogs on the net but I hope it becomes one of the better fishing blogs on the net. For me it’s a natural to have a blog about fishing and it fits right in with this site and it’s hunting and fishing forums.

Fishing is my favorite sport. I suppose I should say freshwater fishing is my favorite outdoors sport as I don’t particularly like ocean fishing. Then again I’m not much on river fishing either. Probably because I learned to fish in freshwater lakes and that’s where I’ve done the bulk of my fishing.

What’s my favorite fish to catch? When I’m fishing whatevers biting becomes my favorite fish. Sure, I start out fishing for walleyes or northerns but if I find the crappies are biting good I’ll switch to crappies. Having a love for catching as well as fishing I go with what’s biting the best.

Asking at your local bait shop is one of the easiest ways to find lakes with big fish but there is another method that works even better. More on that in a minute. Pay attention to the big fish pictures at any bait shop you go into. If they have the lake where they were caught it makes it a lot simpler.

Start keeping track of the lakes where the big fish come from. If you’re like me you get to quite a few baitshops in a year and you should be able to put quite a few lakes into your notebook. The more baitshops with pics of big fish from the same lake the better off you will be. Fish those lakes for those species.

Not every freshwater lake has big fish. A few do but most are average or smaller. Lots of the lakes with big fish that you find in the bait shops get a lot of fishing pressure and aren’t always the best lakes to fish. However they are better than fishing lakes with a smaller than average size. How to catch big fish starts with these tips. Read more tips on the blog.

Exciting Florida Diving On The Atlantic Coastline

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Thousands of scuba divers visit Florida on a Florida diving holiday due to the large variety of dive sites you can find on the Florida coastline.

Although Florida is known as the “sunshine state” not many people understand that Florida has more coastal waters than any other US state.

When we first look at the Atlantic coastline you will find a series of reef lines giving an outer reef, inner reef and middle reef. These reefs run along the coastline giving different diving experences from north of West Palm Beach all the way down the coastline to The Keys.

A fantastic event up and down this coast is the perpetual current of warm water which is The Gulf Stream. The Gulf Stream runs close to the shores heading north before veering out into the Atlantic.

This stream of warm water washes the delicate marine bio systems off the coast and brings with it food that helps maintain the marine eco system on these reefs.

Florida diving fans can find so many diverse things to do up and down the coast.

Florida Diving: North of Jupiter to South of Miami

Starting at Jupiter and working your way down south along the coastline you will find an incredible choice of reefs and shipwrecks to explore with some sites like Governor’s River Walk Reef having well known shipwrecks such as the Shasha boerkanier which is one of three shipwrecks at this dive site.

In West Palm Beach Florida diving beginners can still enjoy a pulsating experience scuba diving famous reef systems such as Breakers Reef.
Further south along the coastline is Fort Lauderdale. This is one of the most popular destinations for divers and non scuba divers alike.

As you travel beside the coast you realize that places like Ft. Lauderdale have plenty of diversity when it comes to diving or snorkeling with well known destinations such as Tenneco Towers or Oil Platforms.

Only in Miami would you scuba dive to discover Army Tanks!
Apart from all the cultural things you can do around Miami on your Florida diving trip there is also a great array of dive sites that provide learner and experienced divers plenty of chance to have fun.

Florida Diving: From Key Largo Down The Keys To Key West
Of course no Florida diving trip can be taken without considering a visit to Key Largo or Key West, The Keys.

When you see the vast choice of diving sites available it’s easy to see why Key Largo is one of the most admired diving destinations in the world.

Key Largo is full of great shipwrecks with ships such as the USS Spiegel Grove, the U.S.S. Duane and U.S.S. Bibb. These are substantial wrecks with the Spiegel Grove only suitable for very experienced divers and taking more than one dive owing to its enormous size. Anyone taking a Florida diving vacation and planning on visiting The Keys will be spoilt for choice and there is something for everyone whatever their skill level.

Some of the best underwater photography has been taken at Molasses Reef. The reef is located in relatively shallow waters and therefore provides good lighting. Molasses Reef is full of color and shapes provided by some of the most excellent marine life in the area and the opportunities to improve your underwater photography skills is endless.

Key Largo is the most excellent known by the Florida scuba diving community for its wide choice of diving sites but Key West is the place to go for the nightlife and culture if you do take a trip to The Keys.

Key West provides some of the finest entertainment in The Keys with the streets full of jugglers, singers and other entertainers going through their routines in the street. With some great dive sites Key West is many peoples favorite destination.

So many locations and so little time and what’s more we haven’t even looked at The Gulf of Mexico on Florida’s west coast. That we will do in an alternative article.

Hunting first aid and whitetail deer hunting

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Hunting can provide opportunities for many types of injuries. Being prepared is your best defense against disabling injuries or even life-threatening accidents. Knowing some basic hunter first aid and using common sense when in the wild can save both life and limb.

CPR
If you don’t know CPR, learn it. Call your local hospital, EMS, or fire department to find out when and where you can attend a community CPR class. You never know when you may need to perform CPR on a friend, family member, or even a stranger. A few hours of your time could save a life someday.

Whitetail deer and deer hunting are a dangerous topic in some places but not in South Dakota. Hunters love deer and want to be able to hunt them. Non hunters love deer and don’t want hunters to hunt them. Small problem when the two groups meet.

Whitetail deer hunting in SD is almost always good, every year. I see so many dead deer laying alongside the interstates it makes me thing a guy should just put his hunting stand at the edge of the cornfield by the interstate.

Eastern SD is whitetail hunting mostly altho a mule deer will get lost and be found in the eastern part of the state and sometimes into Minnesota. Mule deer hunting takes place in Western SD and there is a lot of western South Dakota public hunting ground for your hunting trip.

Ice fishing tips and finding fish

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

Ice fishing and being safe and warm on the ice isn’t something most people know about unless they live in the northern part of the country. Down south they all go huh? What’s ice fishing?

Many people have never experienced fishing except during the summer. Avid anglers know about a whole other world of fishing waiting for them once the temperature drops. Ice fishing is a fantastic winter sport and an excellent family activity. It’s cheap, it’s easy, and it’s fun to do.

First, dress warmly, more so than usual, even if you have a fish house. Ice fishing takes place in the open, which means that winds will be noticeable and can be a factor in comfort. That’s one of the most important ice fishing tips you’ll ever get.

Before you try to catch fish, you need to find out where they are. Remember that fish are found nearly everywhere there is water with sufficient levels of food, oxygen, and cover. More than likely you are living within a few miles of a body of water that has fish in it. For a fisherman, this is good news. They are there – now you have to catch them!

Personally I’d start with your state Dept of Natural Resources, Game and Fish or whatever it’s called in your state. Most have lots of good info on lakes with the most fish, sizes, hatch rates, finding fish, etc.

Obviously, if you do some research you’re going to find which lakes have the most fish, the lakes with the biggest fish and what kinds of fish you are likely to catch on a certain lake. Pay attention to the size and numbers. Just because a lake has 4 million fish doesn’t mean they are a keepable size.
