Employers that discriminate when hiring
Monday, January 4th, 2010Most people agree that professionals should be hired based on their skills and little more than that. When a candidate is better skilled then the competition, there really are not that many reasons why the person shouldn’t get the job. Of course, there legitimate reasons not to give him, or her, the job. Perhaps they were rude in the interview, arrived late, or the chemistry was completely lacking. But when a candidate doesn’t get a job they are best qualified for because of their race, religion, or sexual orientation, the candidate is being discriminated.
A level playing field should be with out question what everyone experiences in their professional career. In 2010 there are probably fewer employers that discriminate then ever, because of awareness and laws that are enforced. But there are still people that have prejudices, or are simply unaware that they are in fact discriminating. It is therefore everyone’s duty to help stop employment discrimination, either by not accepting work with these employers, even if it is only a part time job, or blowing the whistle if you run across such unfairness.
