Halloween Party Food

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

So, you’ve sorted your Halloween planning (mum’s got a Heidi costume and dad has a Cheshire Cat costume!) and you’ve also planned the decor for the house.

But a Halloween Party demands some good food for kids and adults alike as well! Here;s a couple of ideas to get you started.

  1. Brown Spiders: Spread a cracker with peanut butter and then put four pretzel sticks on to make the legs. Next, add another cracker on top and spray with some cake frosting. Yummy!
  2. If there are any vegetarians at the party, make a topical Fungi Salad. Cool some spinach cream in the fridge then cut lettuce, cucumber, carrot, tomato, radish and red onions into small pieces. Put everything into a bowl and add the spinach cream. Looks… Halloween-like!

If you put your mind to it, you can probably think of a whole load of ideas for Halloween food. It’s all in the presentation!

Basic Low Calorie Recipes That Are Not Boring

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Granola does double-duty, for breakfast and snacks. Add raisins, pine nuts or sunflower seeds for extra nutrition and taste. You also need to remember that if your goal is to lose weight, you’ve got to stick with the program. Basic low calorie recipes which weigh fats and oils by the teaspoon are often too stingy on taste. Small enhancements, like non-dairy whipped topping on top of that fruit cup makes it ever so much more attractive. A dab of margarine or butter won’t kill your diet. Most diets forget the most basic of human instincts and this is that if it doesn’t taste good, you won’t stick with a diet of dry and boring basic low calorie recipes.

Potato Salad is very popular in different parts of the world, usually served as a side dish or accompaniment. Most versions are quite creamy but some recipes are prepared to a crisp finish. The dish is easily made and requires inexpensive ingredients. It is ideal for making bulk quantities and can be made in advance, ahead of a party, as long as it is refrigerated. It’s a welcome sight at barbecues and picnics.
