Annual Joe Nall RC Event Attracts RC Hobby Pilots from All Over
Tuesday, June 28th, 2011
Each May the Joe Nall RC event attracts remote controlled airplane pilots from various points across the map to meet on Hartness Airfield in Woodruff, South Carolina to fly RC aircraft.
This year countries represented included Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Lithuania, Italy and points throughout the United States.
The annual Joe Nall Memorial RC Fly-in is held each year because of owner Pat Hartness and his commitment to the RC hobby. The event is named for Joe Nall, his friend who helped start the annual fly-in.
All types of RC airplane flying takes place. Warbirds of World War II, World War I biplanes and big RC planes that sport low wings, high wings and mid-wing construction.
More aerobatic flying is well represented at the 3-D line. Giant aircraft perform acrobatic maneuvers that boggle the mind. How does one make a plane stand on its tail and appear to stand still in mid-air? How does it go backwards and straight up at the same time?
The sport has its own household names, too. Many of them are celebrities, such as Quique Somenzini, Matt Hodges and newcomer Seth Arnold. People such as these have brought an everyday hobby to entire new levels, placing it well within the realm of a dynamic sport capable of wowing crowds and acquiring skills to take it to the next level.
